Erin Gates has written one of the funniest and wittiest design books I’ve read so far. I love that she has a relateable story at the beginning of every chapter. But what I adore the most is that unexpectedly, she got her husband to write the forward note for this book instead of another well known designer and I think it’s sweet what he had to say about her.
I’ve been reading her blog for some time now and I’ve known that she’s very good at what she does, but as I went through the book, it really sank in that she’s pretty much an expert on mixing high-ends with the low ends. I love it when designers do that because it creates a collected, interesting room. It really helps to make a room look evolved over time.
She shares decorating tips in every chapter. She also has a couple of pages devoted to a section called Define Your Style for a couple of different rooms. I’m very nearly always eclectic. I particularly love how she shared a behind-the-scenes moment of getting her work photographed and I laughed out loud over this.
These pictures below are from her book.
